The center brake light sometimes referred to as the third brake light or stoplight on your 2001 honda civic lights up when you hit the brake pedal and helps prevent you from being rear ended by the cars behind you. I was using the cruise control in my 2004 honda civic when the light went off on the cruise control button and my cruise control stopped working.
